Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk
Job Responsibilities:
1. Researching and drafting case consultation memos.
2. Researching and drafting training materials and resources on immigration topics for Assistant Public Defenders.
3. Interviewing clients and reviewing their documents to assess their immigration status and history.
4. Following up with former clients and their family members to track immigration outcomes.
5. Assisting in providing comprehensive advocacy as part of a client-centered and team-based representation.
6. Engaging in significant research and writing, witness preparation, investigations, and/or trial preparation.
7. Working closely with attorneys, investigators, paralegals, social workers, and other support staff to ensure clients receive the best representation possible.
Education and Experience Information:
- The positions are designed for current law students with an interest in criminal and immigration law.
- These positions provide a hands-on experience that is integral to law students' education, allowing them to be fully integrated into trial teams.
- The roles are suitable for students who are seeking to gain practical experience and possibly secure academic credit or outside funding through grants.
Salary Information:
- These are unpaid volunteer positions.

Additional Information:
- The Immigration Division provides training, case consultations, and direct advocacy for noncitizen clients at all stages of the criminal legal process, as well as in CINA and juvenile delinquency proceedings.
- Law clerks have the option to work partially remotely but will be based in the Rockville or Upper Marlboro offices, with other locations available in special circumstances.
