Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research to support defense strategies for indigent clients.
- Research and write motions and memoranda to aid in case preparation.
- Engage in case planning to ensure comprehensive defense strategies.
- Participate in investigations to gather pertinent case information.
- Coordinate with witnesses to prepare for trials, hearings, and/or sentencings.
- Assist in preparation and provide support during trials, hearings, and/or sentencings.
- Work closely with attorneys, investigators, paralegals, social workers, and support staff as part of a trial team.
- Ensure clients receive zealous and comprehensive defense through collaboration with the defense team.

Education and Experience Information:
- Current enrollment in a law school program is required.
- Opportunities are available for current law students to gain hands-on experience in criminal defense.
- Law clerks are fully integrated into trial teams, offering an unparalleled experience in client-centered and team-based representation.

Salary Information:

- OPD supports externs seeking academic credits for their work.
- OPD sponsors grant or other outside funding applications where applicable.

Additional Information:
- Law clerk opportunities are available during the spring semester (January-May), fall semester (September-December), and summer (May-August).
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis through a centralized process.
- Final selections are made by the District Offices based on candidate preferences.
- Due to the ongoing pandemic, some opportunities may be virtual or modified.
- Only the Montgomery County and Baltimore City offices are accessible via public transportation.
