Job Title: Summer 2026 Internship Program
Job Responsibilities:
- Interns will be assigned to one of twelve major bureaus, including but not limited to District Court Trial Bureau (misdemeanors), County Court Trial Bureau (felonies), Organized Crime, Narcotics, Firearms and Gangs, Vehicular Crimes, Appeals and Public Corruption.
- Interns will observe the inner workings of a prosecutor's office, including witness interviews and court proceedings.
- Assist attorneys with all phases of prosecutions and preparing cases for grand jury presentations, hearings, trials, or appeals.
- Perform legal research and draft correspondence and memos.
- Assist with file organization and case management.
- Review, redact, and compile discovery materials.
- Perform administrative tasks related to case preparation, including filing, copying, scanning, answering phones, and scheduling meetings.
- Participate in visits and tours of relevant law enforcement entities, such as the Nassau County Correctional Facility, the Office of the Medical Examiner's laboratories, and the Nassau County Police Department's training facility.
Education and Experience Information:
- Open to first, second, and third-year law students.
- Limited number of positions available for junior or senior undergraduate students with a demonstrated interest in criminal justice.
- Applicants should have excellent research, verbal, and writing skills.
- Previous experience or interest in public service is desirable.
Salary Information:
- All internships are voluntary, unpaid positions.
- The organization endeavors to support students in applications for grants funded by public service entities, work-study funded by a college, or externships for course credit.
- Applicants are encouraged to consult their financial aid offices and public interest career advisors for information on available funding for public service internships with a government agency.
Additional Information:
- The internship program offers immersive opportunities for both fall and spring semesters and an eight-week program during the summer.
- Bureau requests are considered, but placements are based on the needs of the office.
- Legal interns who successfully complete their internship may proceed to a Panel Interview for an Assistant District Attorney position during their second or third year of law school.
