Job Title: Fall Legal Intern, Consumer Protection Unit
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent clients in court under attorney supervision, defending against debt collection actions.
- Negotiate with opposing counsel and present arguments before a judge.
- Conduct legal research and draft motion papers.
- Create legal self-help and reference materials.
- Engage directly with clients, conducting client intakes and interviews.
- Staff a legal intake phone line, addressing a variety of consumer law issues.
- Perform administrative tasks such as entering client data, tracking retainers, logging data, managing court files, and other necessary tasks.

The Consumer Protection Unit at the organization provides support to unrepresented litigants in consumer debt cases within New York City's Civil Courts. Interns will gain invaluable hands-on experience in handling cases and clients, and will be a part of a passionate team practicing consumer law.
