The United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Washington is seeking law student volunteers for the upcoming academic year. This is an opportunity for law students to gain hands-on experience in a professional legal setting while receiving academic credit. The externship program is held from August to June, with a preference for students from the University of Washington School of Law and Seattle University School of Law. The program requires in-person attendance and offers the potential for involvement in a variety of civil and criminal cases.

- Externs work with Assistant . Attorneys in the Civil and Criminal Divisions under the guidance of AUSA Field Supervisors
- Opportunities to work on a variety of civil and criminal cases, including legal research and drafting legal memoranda
- Potential for involvement in discovery conferences, depositions, mediations, court hearings, witness interviews, and trials
Qualifications:
- Successfully completed at least one year of law school
- Superior research and writing skills
- Detail-oriented and committed to upholding justice and human rights
- Must be a United States citizen
- Subject to and must pass a background investigation

- Applications must include a cover letter, resume, academic transcript, and writing sample
- Seattle University students must apply through the Law School's Externship Program
- University of Washington students can apply through SCS Online or via email
- Non-Seattle area law school students must follow their school's externship office procedures and submit their application at least three months prior to the start of the externship
