Organization's Mission: To support the Department's programs to benefit American Indians and Alaska Natives
Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research on environmental and administrative law issues, as well as Indian law
- Participate in complex civil litigation before administrative tribunals
- Assist the Justice Department in litigating matters before federal courts
- Draft legal memoranda, briefs, and motions
- Assist with discovery in active federal cases
- Participate in conference calls and strategy sessions with agency counsel and officials
- Resolve appeals under the Freedom of Information Act
- Home to the Department's Ethics Office
Qualifications:
- Must be a student in good academic standing
- Eligible students include: undergraduate students enrolled at least half-time, public policy graduate students, first-year (second semester), second- and third-year law students, and law school graduates enrolled in graduate law programs at least half-time
- Native American candidates are strongly encouraged to apply
