Job Title: County Attorney (County Counsel)

Job Responsibilities:
- Serve as legal counsel to the Board of County Commissioners.
- Advise County elected officials and department heads on County-related legal matters and civil proceedings.
- Perform legal research and represent the County before judicial and administrative bodies.
- Analyze facts, evidence, and legal precedents to arrive at logical, legally supportable conclusions.
- Set forth findings of fact and conclusions of law in concise written form.
- Respond appropriately to complex issues and questions raised in public meetings or hearings.
- Present civil cases forcefully in courtroom settings.
- Negotiate and exchange ideas, information, and opinions with others to formulate policies and programs or arrive jointly at decisions, conclusions, or solutions.
- Interact with a diverse group of people and deal tactfully with County officials, court officers, and the general public.
- Travel to multiple work sites and attend special meetings, assignments, or other related duties outside of normal work hours as directed by the Commissioners.
- Maintain good attendance and adhere to the schedule of Monday-Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

Education and Experience Information:
- Graduation from an accredited school of law.
- Member of the Oregon State Bar.
- Two years of demonstrated experience in local government law, taxation, employment, tort claim liability, land use, and other related local government experience is preferred.
- Proficiency with technology including word processing, database, internet, and spreadsheet programs.
- Considerable knowledge of legal principles, practices, and terminology, particularly as they relate to Oregon municipalities and public agencies.
- Knowledge of Federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, rules, and ordinances applicable to County activities and functions, including public liability, public meetings, torts, contracts, property taxation, real property and land use, labor law, contract negotiations, public records, and public financing.

Salary Information:
- $14,580 per month (effective July 1st, 2024).
- Full-time position with excellent benefits, including employer-paid PERS contribution, health, dental, and life insurance.

Additional Requirements:
- Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.
- Successful completion of a background check and drug screen.
