Job Title: Consultant, Personal Property Tax
Job Responsibilities:
The Property Tax Consultant is responsible for working with clients and internal teams to ensure compliance with jurisdictional requirements related to personal property tax. This encompasses several key duties:
- Preparing personal property tax returns/renditions, filings, and reconciliation of assets for assigned clients.
- Ensuring that all applicable returns/renditions and remittances are processed and mailed on time.
- Reviewing personal property tax assessments, handling assessment protests, and managing audits.
- Responding to client inquiries and requests from tax authorities.
- Reviewing documentation, researching issues, and working with raw data to complete calculations.
- Assisting in managing a high-volume compliance portfolio.
- Providing exceptional client service to multi-state companies by collaborating with a team to identify tax savings opportunities.
- Assisting multi-state companies with state and local tax controversies, including preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing clients at hearings and appeal meetings, and preparing protests.
- Maintaining an annual client filing calendar.
- Learning and using proprietary software applications to manage data.
- Updating internal compliance software with relevant tax-related information for each assigned client.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
Candidates for the Property Tax Consultant position should have the following educational background and experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Accounting, Business Administration/Management, Business Computer Information Systems, Economics, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Finance, International Business, Public Administration, Real Estate, or a related field with a Master’s degree in a Business discipline or JD, Business Analytics, Operations and Supply Chain Management.
- At least six hours of coursework in Accounting, Economics, Real Estate, or Finance with a GPA of or higher, and a major GPA of or higher.
- Relevant work experience is preferred, which may include internships, summer positions, or school jobs, or a Bachelor’s degree with one to three years of audit or tax-related experience.
- A desire to perform in a high-energy team environment.
- Demonstrated leadership, problem-solving, and strong verbal and written communication skills.
- The ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple assignments, and manage ambiguity.
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team with professionals at all levels.
Computer Skills:
Candidates must possess intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Internet navigation and research.
Certificates and Licenses:
A valid driver’s license is required for this position.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not include any supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment:
- The work environment is a standard indoor setting.
- The position may require long periods of sitting while working at a computer.
- Regular interaction with employees at all levels of the company, as well as with clients and external vendors, is necessary, both in person and via email and telephone.
- Independent travel may be required up to 10-20%.
