Job Overview:
A law firm is seeking a motivated Civil Rights Associate Attorney to join its team. This position provides an exciting opportunity to advocate for individuals whose rights have been violated. The ideal candidate will have litigation experience, a strong intellectual curiosity, and an interest in shaping and advancing civil rights case law.
Location:
Las Vegas, NM
Duties:
Screen potential civil rights cases by conducting in-depth legal research to assess their merits
Participate in civil rights litigation from inception to resolution, including drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and researching, writing, and arguing complex motions
Take and defend depositions, and make court appearances as needed
Collaborate with clients from diverse backgrounds, including incarcerated individuals
Work with senior attorneys and other legal team members on case strategy and development
Requirements:
Minimum 2-5 years of litigation experience, with preference for civil rights, constitutional law, and trial experience
Strong research and legal writing skills, especially with complex motions and case law development
Experience handling depositions, court hearings, and appeals
Passion for civil rights advocacy and intellectual curiosity in engaging with case law development
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team
Education:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
Certifications:
Active license to practice law
Skills:
Strong legal research and writing skills
Expertise in civil rights or constitutional law
Experience with depositions, court hearings, and appeals
Ability to manage complex legal cases from start to finish
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
