A law firm seeks a seasoned litigator to lead its trial practice in Costa Mesa, California. The ideal candidate will oversee complex product liability matters, particularly vehicle defect cases, while managing a team of attorneys and support staff. This role demands strategic acumen, strong courtroom presence, and the ability to harness modern litigation tools to drive optimal outcomes for clients.

Duties

  • Oversee and coordinate multiple high-stakes litigation matters, including case planning, discovery management, and trial execution

  • Serve as first or second chair in jury trials, guiding courtroom strategy and presenting evidence

  • Supervise and mentor junior attorneys, paralegals, and support personnel to ensure cohesive team performance

  • Take and defend depositions, lead witness preparation, and collaborate with expert consultants to bolster case theories

  • Draft comprehensive trial pleadings, such as motions in limine, jury instructions, and trial briefs

  • Represent clients at hearings in both state and federal venues, advocating for favorable resolutions

  • Facilitate and participate in mediations, negotiating settlements when appropriate

  • Conduct thorough legal research to support motions, filings, and strategic recommendations

  • Manage document production and respond to discovery requests, maintaining efficient workflow and organization

  • Maintain ongoing communication with clients and opposing counsel, providing timely updates and resolving procedural issues

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of legal practice, with at least 5 years focused on litigation and trial work

  • Demonstrated experience serving as first or second chair in jury trials

  • Proven track record of conducting and defending depositions, as well as participating in mediations

  • Exceptional brief writing and oral advocacy skills, with keen attention to legal analysis and detail

  • Ability to devise case strategies independently and collaborate effectively within a team environment

  • Skilled at using litigation support technology and tools to enhance case preparation and presentation

  • Capacity to manage a heavy caseload under tight deadlines in a fast-paced setting

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities, capable of motivating and guiding staff

  • High emotional intelligence and discretion when handling sensitive or confidential information

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and legal research platforms

Education

  • A Juris Doctor (.) from an ABA-accredited law school is required

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar (or equivalent state license)
