Consumer & Housing Legal Intern, PBC: Providing Legal Support and Research for Pro Bono Center Clinics and Programs

Do you have a passion for public interest law and want to make a difference in the community? Join our team as a Consumer & Housing Legal Intern at the reputed . Bar Pro Bono Center in Washington, DC. This seasonal part-time position offers a salary range of per hour and requires 25 hours of work per week.

As a Summer Fellow or Intern, you will have the opportunity to assist staff attorneys and managing attorneys in preparing for legal clinics and resource centers. Your responsibilities will include providing legal research and analysis on issues related to bankruptcy, consumer, and housing law. You will also have the chance to staff the Landlord Tenant Resource Center, Small Claims Resource Center, and Advice and Referral in person on clinic dates.

We are looking for someone who is a graduate of an ABA accredited law school or enrolled in a full-time or part-time ABA accredited law school program. A demonstrated interest in public interest law and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 are required. You must also be able to attend in-person meetings and events as needed and have excellent oral and written communication skills.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to help identify emerging issues and develop recommendations for service models. You will also assist in preparing community outreach and legal education materials for prospective clients and community members. Your duties will include drafting forms, pleadings, reports, correspondence, notices, and other documents for attorney review.

The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, deadline-driven, and able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment. You must also have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills and work well in a team environment. Adaptable, creative, and self-motivated individuals are encouraged to apply. Confidentiality and the ability to handle highly sensitive information are also essential for this position.

Preferred qualifications for this role include previous law school clinical experience, experience with a legal services organization that assists indigent individuals, and proficiency in Spanish or Amharic.
