Job Responsibilities
The Assistant Attorney General in the Litigation Division is responsible for defending the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***., other state agencies, and state employees in tort claims seeking monetary damages. These claims may involve areas such as Civil Rights, General Liability, Medical Malpractice, Road Hazard, Transportation, and Workers' Compensation. The specific duties of this role include serving as primary defense counsel in all assigned cases throughout all phases of litigation, from inception through final appeal. The responsibilities also involve performing legal research, drafting pleadings, correspondence, and other documents necessary for case management. The Assistant Attorney General will identify and secure expert assistance and witnesses as needed, communicate effectively with supervisors and clients regarding case developments, and perform administrative functions related to the position, such as preparing reports, case assessments, and settlement authority requests. Compliance with the IAT with ORM and LSU is required, as well as punctual attendance at all case-related matters and maintenance of normal working hours. The role may also require working additional hours to accomplish necessary tasks.

Education and Experience Information
To qualify for the position of Assistant Attorney General, candidates must possess a license to practice law in the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***. and be in good standing with the Louisiana Bar Association. The role also requires the ability to travel, including overnight travel, for state court appearances, continuing education, and other conferences as required.

Preferred qualifications include the ability to handle litigation in both federal and state courts, experience in motions practice and presenting oral arguments in state courts, and knowledge of collections laws, garnishments, and state and federal court practice and procedure. Additionally, candidates should have excellent oral and written communication skills, including listening and editing, the ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines, and possess strong interpersonal skills to foster teamwork and promote a positive work environment.

Salary Information
The salary range for the Assistant Attorney General 1-6 position is $75, to $105, annually. The salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the candidate selected.
