Job Title: Tax Manager, Specialized Tax Services Partnerships
Job Responsibilities:
As a Tax Manager, Specialized Tax Services Partnerships, the primary responsibility is to advise clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, particularly in relation to partnerships. This includes managing section 704(b) and taxable income allocations, maintaining capital accounts, conducting liability analysis and allocations, and performing calculations for section 734(b) and 743(b) adjustments and Tax Receivable Agreements (TRA). The role involves understanding potential partnership taxation issues and assisting in the preparation of partnership-specific computations. The Tax Manager is integral to the leadership team of the STS Partnership Practice, contributing to the group’s development and engaging in process improvement and team-building initiatives. Maintaining client relationships and providing guidance to other team members are also key aspects of the role.
Key duties include:
- Maintaining and developing an in-depth understanding of partnership taxation technical and practical issues.
- Identifying and conducting research, clearly framing issues for analysis, and reporting findings concisely.
- Training associates and senior associates in research skills and effectively framing tax issues.
- Assisting with developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, especially by minimizing current and future taxes.
- Applying tax knowledge and industry understanding to recommend solutions and manage client expectations.
- Supervising associates and senior associates on all projects, reviewing their work, and providing performance feedback.
- Acting as a career advisor and managing workload for associates and senior associates.
Education and Experience Information:
Education requirements include a Bachelor’s degree, with a preference for majors in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics. A Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation is preferred. Candidates must have five or more years of relevant tax experience, which may include public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience. Specialized partnership experience is required, and prior supervisory experience is preferred. Experience in private equity, at both fund and portfolio company levels, is also preferred.
License/Certifications:
Preferred certifications include CPA, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA), or equivalent professional designations.
Software skills:
The role requires proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software is preferred.

The position requires superior verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, and decision-making abilities. Candidates should be able to work well in a team environment, develop and manage a team of tax professionals, and effectively develop and maintain client relationships. Solid organizational skills and the ability to meet project deadlines with a focus on details are necessary. The ability to multi-task while working independently and within a group environment is essential. The role demands the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with company and client personnel and successfully interact with professionals at all levels. The candidate should be able to cultivate a positive team environment on engagements and contribute to the professional development of team personnel.
