A law firm is seeking a Patent Agent for their office in McLean, VA. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the firm's patent practice, working closely with partners and senior associates to handle a range of patent-related responsibilities.

Job Overview: The Patent Agent will work in collaboration with partners and senior associates to manage domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution, research and draft legal opinions for clients, and handle patent office litigation matters.

Duties:

  • Conducting patent research and analysis to support clients' patent-related needs.
  • Drafting and preparing patent applications, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.
  • Assisting in the development of legal opinions and strategies for patent matters.
  • Conducting freedom-to-operate patent searches and comprehensive literature searches.
  • Collaborating with attorneys and clients to gather information and provide patent-related guidance.

Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Preferred: Master's or . degrees in the aforementioned fields.
  • 2-4 years of practical experience in drafting patent applications and assisting in the development of legal opinions.
  • Familiarity with domestic and foreign patent preparation and prosecution procedures.
  • Proficiency in conducting freedom-to-operate patent searches and literature searches.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with attorneys and clients.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Preferred: Master's or . degrees in the aforementioned fields.

Certifications:

  • Patent Agent registration with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is preferred.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in patent research and analysis.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
