Job Title: Deputy Prosecuting Attorney - Superior Court

Job Responsibilities:
The Deputy Prosecuting Attorney is responsible for representing the State of Washington in **Members Only** courts, primarily focusing on felony criminal cases in Superior Court. The role involves managing an active criminal caseload, which includes the evaluation, filing, preparation, and prosecution of cases through trial and sentencing. The attorney may also handle appeals and other types of criminal prosecutions. Essential duties include:

- Preparing cases for litigation and working with law enforcement to ensure thorough investigations.
- Reviewing reports for legal sufficiency and determining appropriate charges to be filed.
- Handling pretrial hearings, such as preliminary appearances, omnibus hearings, bail hearings, suppression and confession hearings, pleas, and sentencings.
- Preparing and litigating jury trials or bench trials, selecting juries if applicable, and handling appellate matters, including brief preparation and argument.
- Conducting courtroom proceedings necessary for the hearing of assigned cases.
- Determining strategy, including organization, timing, and order of evidence presentation, witness appearances, and related factors.
- Ensuring that the Prosecuting Attorney and other concerned parties are informed of case progress and direction.
- Coordinating with Victim/Witness staff for the timely appearance of witnesses.
- Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda and legal briefs.
- Advising law enforcement agencies on the legal aspects of specific offenses and on proper arrest, search and seizure, and related procedures.
- Carrying out duties of the Deputy Prosecutor as directed by the Prosecuting Attorney and performing any other assigned tasks.

The role requires compliance with ethical rules and guidelines for attorneys as established by the Washington State Supreme Court, maintaining a professional image, and engaging in ongoing training and review to stay current with applicable case law and legislative changes.

Education and Experience:
- Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association is required.
- Must be a licensed attorney in good standing with the Washington State Bar Association, remain active with annual requirements, and maintain a clear criminal record.
- A minimum of three (3) years of practice as an attorney is required, with a preference for experience in the prosecution of criminal offenses.
- Requires full knowledge of criminal law and related Washington statutes.

Salary Information:
- Full Wage Range: $6, - $8, per month
- Hiring Range: $6, - $7, per month, depending on qualifications

Additional Information:
The position offers a $10,000 sign-on bonus, subject to taxes and withholdings, paid in two installments: 50% after the first day of employment and the remaining 50% after one year of service. Working Environment / Physical Abilities:

The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, with potential travel within the county. Physical requirements include walking, sitting, writing, hearing, speaking, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Vision abilities required include close and distance vision, peripheral, and depth perception.
