Senator Wyden offers internships to college students and recent graduates looking to gain experience in legislative matters. The program provides firsthand knowledge of the daily operations of a Senate office, exposure to the federal legislative process, and research skills related to public policy. Interns have the opportunity to receive college credit and work year-round, with application deadlines matching academic schedules.
Internship Details:
- Location: Oregon state or Washington, .
- Duration: Summer (June-August), Fall (September-December), Winter-Spring (January-May)
- Application deadlines: Summer (March 1), Fall (July 1), Winter-Spring (November 1)
- Weekly availability: Monday-Friday
- Hours: Flexible, to be discussed upon acceptance
Responsibilities:
- Day-to-day operations: Responding to constituent requests, updating computer records, and drafting correspondences.
- Observing the legislative process: Preparing briefing summaries, attending floor proceedings, and participating in meetings related to legislation.
- Research: Assisting with detailed responses to constituent concerns and policy questions using various research sources.
- Individually assigned projects: Interns may have the opportunity to work on special projects based on their interests and the office's needs.
Requirements:
- College student or recent graduate
- Interest in legislative matters and public policy
- Strong research and communication skills
