Job Title: Senior Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
As a Senior Counsel at the organization, you will play a crucial role in undertaking the most advanced and complex litigation cases. Your responsibilities will include:
- Litigating complex cases at both appellate and trial levels.
- Taking immediate legal action in urgent circumstances.
- Exercising initiative to investigate potential cases.
- Representing clients in court and before quasi-judicial or administrative government agencies.
- Supervising senior, midlevel, and junior attorneys in complex civil litigation, with a focus on First Amendment law and 42 . § 1983 civil rights actions.
- Reviewing and editing substantive briefs.
- Participating in moot courts for appellate and trial cases.
- Training and mentoring midlevel and junior attorneys in all phases of state and federal litigation.
- Maintaining superior quality of all legal documents through review and editing; conducting advanced legal research on novel legal issues.
- Interviewing clients and witnesses.
- Preparing and filing legal briefs.
- Developing strategy, arguments, and testimony in preparation for case presentations.
- Providing legal advice regarding laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and businesses.
- Cooperating with the Development team by engaging in opportunities to communicate the organization's legal operations to supporters.
- Networking and developing relationships with allied attorneys and/or potential allied attorneys.
Education and Experience Information:
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, WordPerfect, and Westlaw software.
- A Bachelor’s degree and a ., with a license to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
