The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is seeking qualified candidates for their Environmental Planning Internship in the Spring of 2025. This paid internship will provide valuable hands-on experience in environmental planning and analysis, as well as the opportunity to work with various stakeholders and experts in the field.
The organization is looking for individuals who possess excellent research, writing, and organizational skills. The intern will be responsible for providing support in environmental planning and analysis for the six counties within DEC Region 9. This includes identifying and verifying widely accepted environmental indicators, monitoring progress, and identifying gaps and suggestions for expediting progress.
The intern will have the opportunity to work closely with the DEC regional director, the Chair of the UB Department of Urban and Regional Planning, and/or their supervising faculty to review projects. They will also be encouraged to connect their work with their academic coursework and research, with the support of a faculty member from their academic institution.
The ideal candidate for this internship would be a junior or graduate student pursuing a degree in Environmental Planning, Environmental Law, Environmental Studies, or a related field. They should have a strong background in research and writing, as well as excellent organizational skills. This internship is a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience and make valuable connections in the field of environmental planning and policy.
Payment for this internship will be provided, and the schedule and hours will be set to accommodate academic schedules. On average, interns are expected to work 10-20 hours per week through March 31st, 2025. The DEC is looking for 3 interns to join their team in Erie, New York. The ideal candidate should be a junior or graduate student with a degree concentration in Engineering, Environmental Studies, Legal Studies, Natural Science, or Public Administration. They should also have a strong interest in environmental conservation, planning, and public policy.
