Job Title: In-House Insurance Defense Trial Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage the entire legal process from investigation and discovery through trial preparation and court proceedings. This includes representing clients in depositions, site inspections, court hearings, trials, and negotiating settlements as required.
- Develop appropriate legal strategies for all stages of litigation by researching all applicable laws and findings. Share these strategies with claims representatives and insured clients.
- Establish and maintain good relationships with claims representatives and clients. Occasionally conduct training sessions for Legal, Claims, or other departments.
- Develop and render clear, unambiguous legal opinions and strategies. Draft legal documents including pleadings and motions.
- Provide guidance and direction to junior attorneys as needed. Prepare and conduct training sessions for the legal and claims departments and collaborate with colleagues who are remotely located.
Education and Experience Information:
- Membership in the New York State Bar is required.
- Special licenses to practice before boards or federal courts are preferred.
- A minimum of six years of successful experience as an attorney is required.
- A JD degree is required.

- Aptitude for detail-oriented, analytical thinking.
- Persuasive oral and written communication skills.
- General knowledge of insurance law.
- Familiarity with the latest developments in the practice of law and pertinent knowledge in related fields.
- Proficiency with technologies that reduce costs and facilitate the practice of law and remote work.
Salary Information:
- Minimum Salary: USD $119,.
- Maximum Salary: USD $210,.
- The starting salary range for this role is determined by factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
