Overview:
- The Office of the Solicitor is responsible for the legal work of the . Department of the Interior (DOI)
- DOI's mission makes it the Nation's premier conservation agency
- The Office has nearly 200 practicing attorneys in the headquarters office and over 300 attorneys nationwide
- Legal interns will have the opportunity to work on a diverse range of legal issues and cases, including environmental, administrative, and Indian law
- The Office also handles appeals under the Freedom of Information Act and houses the Department's Ethics Office
- Native American candidates are strongly encouraged to apply

Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research on various environmental and administrative law issues
- Draft legal memoranda, briefs, and motions
- Assist with discovery in active federal cases
- Participate in conference calls and strategy sessions with other agency counsel and Justice Department lawyers
- Attend hearings and meetings in the Washington, . area
Qualifications:
- Must be a student (undergraduate, public policy graduate, first-year law student, second or third-year law student, or law school graduate enrolled in a graduate law program)
- Must be in good academic standing and provide official documentation from school
- First-year, first-semester law students may apply after December 1 for internships the following summer
