Job Title: Associate Staff Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Litigation Execution: Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting legal documents such as pleadings and motions. Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel throughout the litigation process, including preparation, management, and assistance at every stage.
- Client Advisory and Relationship Management: Provide clear and reasoned legal opinions and strategic advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients. Develop and maintain strong client relationships through transparent and effective communication.
- Technology Utilization: Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to streamline legal processes, improve efficiency, and reduce operational costs. Coordinate effectively with remote team members and demonstrate proficiency in remote work settings.
- Risk Evaluation and Case Resolution Facilitation: Identify, evaluate, and collaborate on strategies to mitigate legal risks, working closely with clients and senior counsel to facilitate effective resolutions.
- Documentation Accuracy and Compliance: Ensure all legal documents, pleadings, and motions are meticulously prepared, accurate, and compliant with applicable standards and client expectations.
- Timely Client Communication: Provide clear, consistent, and timely updates and recommendations to insured clients and claims professionals to maintain alignment with case objectives.
- Contribution to Organizational Improvement: Participate in initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency, effectiveness, and best practices within the department and Global Legal & Compliance organizations.
- Ethical Compliance Adherence: Uphold the highest standards of legal ethics and compliance, following legal regulations and licensing requirements and promoting a culture of integrity within the legal team.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the bar in Washington State and in good standing; special licenses to practice before particular boards or federal courts may be required.
- General knowledge of insurance law, and as necessary, workers’ compensation and/or No Fault law.
- Proficient in e-discovery, case management systems, and basic legal analysis tools.
- Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills.
- Basic knowledge of negotiation techniques including preparation, active listening, and problem-solving.
- Demonstrated ability to manage cases from start to finish under supervision.
- Effective communication and persuasion skills, both written and oral.
- Ability to collaborate with clients, claims professionals, and senior attorneys.
- Organized, process-oriented with strong time management skills.
Salary Information:
- Minimum Salary: USD $94,.
- Maximum Salary: USD $161,.
- Typical Starting Salary: $110,000 - $128,000
- Flexible Time Off Annual Accrual: 20 days
The typical starting salary range for this role is determined by a number of factors including skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at the company have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.
