Head of Construction Defect Claims
Job Responsibilities
- Lead a large team handling all aspects of construction defect claims.
- Develop and ensure the performance of the Construction Defect (CD) Claim teams, focusing on quality, accuracy, and timely resolution of high-complexity and/or high-severity liability claims.
- Continuously develop talent by creating opportunities for team members to grow and acquire new skills.
- Monitor team performance and analyze trends to identify root cause problems, recommending solutions to operational leadership as necessary.
- Foster a culture of process efficiency, continuously improving work completion methods.
- Cultivate a highly effective and engaged employee culture by selecting top talent, providing continuous coaching, recognizing achievements, and holding individuals accountable for team development.
- Advocate for claims customer service excellence by understanding and exceeding stakeholders’ expectations.
- Identify changes in claim best practices and workflows to drive high-quality outcomes and develop training solutions to embed and sustain these practices within the organization.
- Identify technological changes to support these practices and workflows, collaborating with IT counterparts in design, build, and testing phases.
- Utilize data and analytics to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal and external business partners to ensure profitable growth.
- Develop coverage acumen and ensure proactive management of litigation by the team.
Education and Experience Information
- Significant experience in claims leadership roles within the insurance industry, with material experience in Construction Defect claim management.
- Multi-jurisdictional expertise.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
- Advanced degree, including Juris Doctor (.), preferred.
- Ability to manage a diverse group of claims teams located in multiple locations.
- Experience in directly managing and guiding a team of Managers responsible for overseeing all aspects of claims.
- Regular participation in claims roundtable discussions focusing on issues surrounding coverage, liability, and assessment of damages.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present to senior leadership.
- Leadership skills including the ability to plan, organize, delegate, and develop direct reports.
- Ability to persuade and influence people through superior written and oral communications, explaining concepts clearly, effectively challenging ideas, and advocating own point of view.
- Possess emotional intelligence and self-awareness.
- Embrace changes and invite feedback related to performance, dealing constructively with criticism.
