Job Title: Fall 2025 Law Clerk
Job Responsibilities:
- Conduct legal research and analysis to support the **MEMBERS ONLY**SIGN UP NOW***..
- Perform investigations related to post conviction cases.
- Write legal memorandums, post conviction petitions, and motions for modification.
- Interview incarcerated clients both in prison and via video conference.
- Participate in client-centered and team-based representation alongside attorneys, investigators, paralegals, social workers, and other support staff to ensure comprehensive advocacy and representation for clients.
Education and Experience Information:
- The position is open to current law students seeking hands-on experience in the field of public defense.
- Applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to zealous and comprehensive public defense.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment is essential.
- Candidates should also be able to work independently and manage their time efficiently.
Salary Information:
- These positions are unpaid volunteer opportunities. However, the organization will support externs seeking academic credits for their work.
- The organization may also sponsor grant or other outside funding applications where applicable.
Application Process:
- Applications are submitted through a centralized process, but final selections are made by the Post Conviction Defender's Division.
- Law clerks can join the organization three times a year: spring, summer, and fall.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and candidates have the opportunity to indicate their office preferences for placement.
- Final placement decisions are made consistent with the candidate's preferences, and it is noted that only the Montgomery County and Baltimore City offices are accessible via public transportation.
