Job Overview: A law firm is seeking a skilled Litigation Associate with at least five years of experience in all phases of commercial litigation. The ideal candidate will have experience in insurance defense and coverage, and be licensed in Missouri and Kansas. Experience or licensing in Arkansas is preferred. The associate will work both independently and as part of a team, handling complex insurance defense cases and various commercial litigation matters.

Location:

  • Kansas City, MO

Duties:

  • Independently manage cases throughout all phases of litigation.
  • Conduct fact investigations to gather relevant case information.
  • Handle document productions and other discovery-related tasks.
  • Prepare witnesses for depositions and trials.
  • Take and defend depositions of witnesses.
  • Draft pleadings, briefs, and motions for litigation.
  • Review and analyze insurance policies, contracts, and other legal documents.
  • Prepare for court hearings, including oral arguments for motions.
  • Provide trial support, including direct and cross-examination of witnesses.

Requirements:

  • At least five years of experience in commercial litigation.
  • Experience in insurance defense and insurance coverage is preferred.
  • Must be licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas; licensing in Arkansas is a plus.
  • Ability to manage complex cases and handle all aspects of litigation.
  • Strong communication and advocacy skills for client and team interactions.

Education:

  • Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

  • Admission to the state bar in Missouri and Kansas; additional admission in Arkansas is preferred.

Skills:

  • Expertise in managing litigation from start to finish.
  • Strong background in insurance defense and coverage cases.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, particularly in drafting legal documents and presenting arguments.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret legal documents such as contracts and policies.
  • Proficient in trial preparation, including witness preparation and examination.
  • Capable of handling discovery and depositions independently.
