This full-time position offers a salary range of $80,000 - $90,000 annually. About Sanctuary for Families: - New York’s leading service provider and advocate for survivors of domestic violence, sex trafficking and related forms of gender violence. - Empowers thousands of adults and children annually to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability. - Provides comprehensive services in 11 locations throughout New York City. - Works to end gender violence through direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Position Overview: - Key position within the Immigration Intervention Project. - Represents survivors of domestic violence, gender-based violence, and human trafficking in immigration matters. - Works within the Gender-Based Asylum Rapid Response Initiative. - Creates and expands a Pro Se Asylum Project in collaboration with pro bono partners. - Provides trauma-informed legal assistance and representation to survivors seeking . asylum. - Mentors and supervises project assistants, volunteer attorneys, legal fellows, and interns. - Conducts community outreach and education. - Collaborates with other agencies to assist and empower immigrant survivors. - Educates the public, social service agencies, law enforcement agencies, communities, and political representatives about gender-based asylum claims. Responsibilities: - Lead a project with pro bono partners to deliver trauma-informed pro se legal assistance and representation to survivors seeking . asylum. - Represent immigrant survivors of gender-based violence in asylum-related proceedings. - Advocate with . Citizenship and Immigration Services and engage in motion practice for the best possible outcome for clients. - Train, supervise, and mentor pro bono and in-house attorneys, support staff, and interns on gender-based asylum. - Design and deliver training on immigration relief options and trauma-informed lawyering. - Conduct screening interviews with immigrant survivors to assess eligibility for asylum. - Maintain accurate records in electronic database. - Represent Sanctuary for Families at community events and on advocacy committees. - Advocate on behalf of clients with city and state agencies. - Collaborate with community-based organizations and other agencies to improve responses to immigrant survivors. - Contribute to Sanctuary’s efforts to educate the public and agencies about immigrant victims of domestic violence. - Refer victims to appropriate legal and social services. - Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements: - . - Minimum of 5 years of experience in immigration law. - Experience working with survivors in a non-profit setting. - Bilingual in English and a relevant community language. - Strong judgment, writing, research, and analytical skills. - Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills. - Ability to work independently and under pressure. - Ability to handle complex immigration cases. - Ability to motivate, inspire, and manage staff. - Ability to do systems change advocacy. - Passionate about Sanctuary’s mission. - Understanding and ability to work with diverse backgrounds.
