The Tax Managing Director will be responsible for applying industry specific knowledge to advice clients on the tax implications of their business objections, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations. In addition, the Tax Managing Director will be a critical member of the office/region leadership team, actively participate in the marketing, networking and business development, and maintain client relationships. ## Job Summary The Tax Managing Director is responsible for: * Applying industry specific knowledge to advice clients on the tax implications of their business objections * Evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance * Identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations * Acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues * Being a critical member of the office/region leadership team * Participating in the marketing, networking and business development within an area of expertise and specialization * Maintaining client relationships and acting as the primary contact for complex questions ## Job Duties The Tax Managing Director is expected to: * Ensure both that (a) clients comply with all applicable authorities, while at the same time minimizing their tax and reporting burdens, and (b) self and client service teams comply with all Firm policies, standards, and the BDO Tax Quality Manual (“TQM”) * Manage engagements to achieve engagement management metrics * Practice hands-on client service delivery * Identify when research is needed; clearly and concisely frame issues to be researched; and clearly and concisely report the analysis * Apply technical expertise regarding income tax provisions in the area of international tax, valuation allowance credits, business combinations, and stock based compensation issues * Review and apply income tax provision efficiently * Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing efficient and effective methods to maximize client benefits, especially by decreasing clients’ current and future taxes * Apply expert knowledge of the process of combining tax knowledge and knowledge of business/industry to recommend solutions and maximize results in the Firm * Apply general knowledge of multiple tax specialties (. International, SALT, Estate Planning) for issue identification and resolution * Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients, the Firm, or Firm personnel, ., by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits * Depending on specific role, may be required to present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients ## Supervisory Responsibilities The Tax Managing Director is expected to: * Supervise associates, senior associates and managers, as the situation dictates * Review work prepared by associates and senior associates and provide review comments * Act as a Career Advisor to associates, senior associates and managers * Schedule and manage workload of associates, senior associates and managers * Provide verbal and written performance feedback to associates, senior associates and managers ## Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities The Tax Managing Director should have: * A Bachelors degree, major in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Statistics preferred * Masters in Accountancy or Taxation preferred * Ten (10) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting or consulting/professional services experience * Industry expertise in one or more tax specialty preferred * Prior supervisory experience * CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (“EA”) (or the equivalent of one of these designations) * Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred * Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite preferred * Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred * Superior verbal and written communication skills * Ability to effectively delegate work as needed * Strong analytical, research and critical thinking skills as well as decision-making skills * Capacity to work well in a team environment * Capable of developing and managing a team of tax professionals * Ability to compose written tax advice * Capable of effectively developing and maintaining client relationships * Executive presence and ability to act as primary client ,000 * Colorado Range: $118,590 - $134,282 * New York City/Valhalla Range: $200,000 - $245,000 * Washington Range: $
