Job Overview:
A law firm specializing in complex immigration matters is seeking a dedicated Immigration Attorney. This firm handles a range of cases, including those involving victims of crimes, asylum seekers, and unaccompanied minors. As part of the legal team, the attorney will assist clients in navigating various immigration-related matters and represent them in immigration courts, USCIS, and state courts.
Duties:
- Provide legal counsel and manage immigration cases.
- Represent non-detained individuals in removal proceedings at the Immigration Court and Board of Immigration Appeals.
- Advocate for clients before . Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
- Handle a caseload of diverse immigration cases, including removal defense and family-based immigration petitions.
- Prepare and review legal documents such as applications, cover letters, and briefs.
- Develop case strategies and prepare clients and witnesses for court or USCIS hearings.
- Participate in various immigration training sessions to stay updated on case strategies and procedures.
- Maintain an active caseload, ensuring timely completion of projects and deliverables.
Requirements:
- Juris Doctor (JD) with strong academic credentials.
- An active member in good standing with the State Bar of California.
- 1-2 years of immigration experience is preferred.
- Interest in family-based immigration and removal defense, especially someone passionate about representing minors
- Fluency in Spanish is required.
Education:
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
- Must be licensed to practice law in California (State Bar membership required).
Skills:
- Prior experience assisting immigrant, low-income, or limited-English-speaking clients is preferred.
- Familiarity with Special Immigrant Juvenile Status (SIJS) is a plus.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Excellent organizational abilities with attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Willingness to travel within the county and state as needed.
