Summary: - Organization: Communities Resist (CoRe) - Job Title: Staff Attorney - Experience: Relevant experience advocating in Queens or Brooklyn Housing Court - Salary: Commensurate with experience - Location: Brooklyn or Queens - Responsibilities: - Collaborate with neighborhood organizations and tenant/community organizers to preserve and expand affordable housing for lower income residents - Represent low-income tenant associations and individuals facing eviction or harassment from landlords - Combat systemic housing discrimination and provide legal services to improve living conditions - Conduct Know Your-Rights housing workshops and educational efforts - Participate in neighborhood advocacy efforts to stop tenant harassment, displacement, and residential segregation - Contribute to CoRe's housing advocacy and legal strategy - Qualifications: - Admission to the bar of the State of New York or eligible for admission - Cultural competence and ability to effectively communicate with diverse individuals and organizations - Excellent legal writing, litigation, and advocacy skills - Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with people in crisis - Ability to work independently, manage a high caseload, and meet deadlines - Computer proficiency for case tracking and reporting - Preferred Qualifications: - Fluency in Spanish, Bengali, Korean, or Mandarin - Demonstrated ability to publish articles advocating for clients - Equal opportunity employer - Rolling application process - How to apply: Submit a cover letter and resume to CFOO, Angela Piguave at with "Staff Attorney" in the subject line.
