Summary:

Join NIJC's team as a Supervising Attorney and make a difference in the lives of immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. NIJC is a unique organization that combines individual client advocacy with broad-based systemic change. As a Supervising Attorney, you will oversee a legal team providing services at the Immigration Court Helpdesk and provide legal representation and counseling to non-detained immigrants. You will also collaborate with other legal services projects, pro bono partners, and other teams at NIJC to advance immigration reform.

Key Responsibilities:

- Supervise legal orientation services and oversee paralegals, attorneys, interns, and support staff
- Ensure accurate data entry and timely case preparation
- Provide recommendations based on case trends to inform project-based strategic decisions
- Maintain and develop strategic partnerships with key stakeholders
- Conduct legal research and provide legal representation to immigrants in immigration proceedings
- Draft correspondence and documents, including applications, briefs, and reports
- Conduct legal presentations to NIJC staff and members of the immigrant community
- Maintain accurate records and stay up-to-date on immigration law and policies
- Advance an anti-racist organization that promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Handle other essential duties as assigned

Qualifications:

- Law degree (JD) and license to practice law
- At least 3 years of experience in the legal field, preferably in immigration law
- Fluency in English and Spanish
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software used by NIJC
- Ability to solve problems and interpret instructions
- Willingness to undergo a comprehensive background check

Physical Demands:

- Ability to talk and hear
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting
- Occasional lifting and/or moving up to 10 pounds
- Visual abilities required for close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception

Work Environment:

- Moderate noise level
