# Legal Secretary III ## Job Description The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services is currently seeking a Legal Secretary III in its Regional Litigation - CPS PS department. The main job duties include working with the Regional Attorneys as they provide legal representation to DFPS and processing subpoenas from the surrounding 19 counties. The successful candidate will possess knowledge of spelling, punctuation, sentence structure, grammar, and arithmetic. They will also be able to organize records and to prepare chronology of events, prioritize work and complete tasks in an efficient and timely manner, plan and organize workflow, handle telephone calls in a professional and efficient manner, and be proficient in the use of Word, Excel, Microsoft Outlook, as well as the ability to learn the use of other computer programs. ## Education and Experience Requirements Some education beyond high school is preferable. Prior secretarial experience and prior experience working in the legal field, especially family law or child welfare law, are also desirable. Notary Public is preferred but not required. ## Salary Range The salary range for this position is $3, - $4, per month, and is a part of the A17 salary group. ## Essential Job Functions The main job duties include working with the Regional Attorneys as they provide legal representation to DFPS and processing subpoenas from the surrounding 19 counties. The successful candidate must also be able to drive a vehicle, lift and carry objects, operate a computer, including operating word processing, data management, and other computer software, be capable of verbal and written communication, and operate equipment and machinery, such as faxes, copiers and other office equipment. ## Additional Information HHS agencies use E-Verify. You must bring your I-9 documentation with you on your first day of work. Military occupation(s) that relate to the initial selection criteria and registration or licensure requirements for this position may include: 27D, LN, 4400, 5J0X1. As a state agency, DFPS is required Texas Administrative Code (TAC 206 and 213) to ensure all Electronic Information Resources (EIR) follow accessibility standards. The staff must be familiar with the WCAG AA and Section 508 to create accessible content including but not limited to; Microsoft Office documents, Adobe PDFs, webpages, software, training guides, video, and audio files.
