Job Title: Staff Attorney - Veterans Advocacy Project
Organization: Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA)
Service Area: 68 counties in Texas (excluding El Paso)
Experience Required: JD from accredited university, licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take next available bar exam, experience working with low-income populations and veterans, and fluency in English and Spanish.

Responsibilities:

- Evaluate clients' claims and assess civil legal remedies
- Provide direct representation to clients in all stages of litigation and in all forms of advocacy
- Provide counsel to individuals seeking civil legal assistance
- Establish and maintain relationships with community partners
- Support civil legal services for veterans throughout the TRLA service area
- Organize and lead education and outreach efforts to community about legal issues faced by low-income veterans and their families

Introduction:

Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is seeking a full-time staff attorney for our Veterans Advocacy Project. This position is responsible for providing extended civil services to veterans in a wide range of legal matters and collaborating with community partners to address systemic barriers facing veterans. We are looking for a self-directed, empathetic, and motivated individual with experience in serving low-income populations and working with veterans.

Job Description:

The staff attorney will primarily focus on providing direct legal services to eligible clients and working closely with community partners to ensure integrated services for veterans. This includes evaluating clients' claims and assessing legal remedies, representing clients in all stages of litigation, and providing counsel to individuals seeking assistance. The attorney will also support civil legal services for veterans throughout the 68-county TRLA service area and lead education and outreach efforts to the community about legal issues faced by low-income veterans and their families.
