As a PRDU Staff Attorney, you will have the opportunity to represent clients accused of violating their conditions of release at administrative parole revocation hearings and recognizance hearings throughout New York City. This fast-paced and litigation-intensive practice offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of individuals facing parole revocation. About the Position: The Staff Attorney will handle all aspects of parole revocation cases, including hearings, appeals, and post-conviction proceedings. They will work closely with unit support staff, paralegals, and investigative staff to provide zealous and effective defense representation. The Staff Attorney will also collaborate with the PRDU social work team to identify and develop mitigation strategies for clients with mental health and/or substance abuse issues, medical needs, or those who are suitable for alternatives to incarceration. Responsibilities: - Represent clients at parole revocation hearings and recognizance hearings in various settings throughout New York City - Work collaboratively with support staff and social work team to provide effective defense representation - Handle all aspects of parole revocation cases, including hearings, appeals, and post-conviction proceedings Qualifications: - Admitted to the New York State Bar or pending admission with scheduled bar exam in July 2024 and NYLE in September 2024 - 2+ years of relevant experience preferred - Strong courtroom skills - Background in criminal and/or administrative law or prison-related litigation preferred - Fluency in Spanish strongly preferred Salary Transparency: The Legal Aid Society offers a competitive salary range for this position, with specific salary offers dependent on candidate qualifications.
