Summary: - Job Title: Staff Attorney - Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) - Organization: Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) - Location: Allegany/Garrett Office, Cumberland, MD, US - Job Type: Full Time - Experience: 1-7 years preferred - Salary: $75,695 - $85,009 (depending on experience) Job Description: - MLA provides life-changing civil legal assistance to low-income and marginalized individuals and communities in Maryland. - Dedicated to preserving basic human needs and rights, MLA's team of over 100 attorneys strive to level the legal playing field for those most in need. - MLA's Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) has represented over 1,600 households since its inception in October 2022. - TRCP is seeking a Staff Attorney for the Allegany/Garrett office, located in Cumberland, MD, who is passionate about public interest law and social justice. - The Staff Attorney will handle a full caseload of eviction cases, advocate before administrative agencies, participate in client intake, and assist with broader advocacy efforts. - Qualifications include admission to practice in Maryland, a . degree, knowledge of civil law and procedures, proficiency in computer programs, strong research and communication skills, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities. - Preferred qualifications include 1-7 years of post-bar admission legal experience, prior experience in public-interest litigation or non-profit legal services, and Spanish language proficiency. - The work environment is typically in an office setting with occasional community work. - MLA offers a generous benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance, a 401(k)-retirement plan, 2 weeks paid time off, sick leave, 14 annual paid holidays, and a hybrid work arrangement. - Applicants must submit a resume, legal writing sample, and cover letter with their online application. - References will be required at the final interview. - MLA is committed to equity, justice, and inclusion and seeks to hire individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
