Job Description:

- MLA provides life-changing civil legal assistance to low-income and marginalized individuals and communities in Maryland.

- MLA's Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) has represented over 1,600 households since its inception in October 2022.
- TRCP is seeking a Staff Attorney for the Allegany/Garrett office, located in Cumberland, MD, who is passionate about public interest law and social justice.
- The Staff Attorney will handle a full caseload of eviction cases, advocate before administrative agencies, participate in client intake, and assist with broader advocacy efforts.
- Qualifications include admission to practice in Maryland, a . degree, knowledge of civil law and procedures, proficiency in computer programs, strong research and communication skills, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
- Preferred qualifications include 1-7 years of post-bar admission legal experience, prior experience in public-interest litigation or non-profit legal services, and Spanish language proficiency.
- The work environment is typically in an office setting with occasional community work.

Qualification and Experience Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland or another jurisdiction and eligible for admission in the State of Maryland, Juris Doctorate (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school, Knowledge of civil law principles, judicial procedures, and rules of evidence, Computer proficiency, Excellent research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills, Self-starter, Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks, Ability to provide quality legal advocacy and representation for low-income, diverse clients, Ability to travel locally and regionally in Maryland, Knowledge of Westlaw Edge or other legal research software is a plus, One to seven years of post-bar admission legal experience is preferred but not required, Prior experience and/or interest in public-interest litigation or non-profit legal services is a plus, Spanish language proficiency is desirable.
