Position Objective:

The Paralegal will provide services for The Office of Technology Transfer and Development for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. They will work under the direction of the Director or Deputy Director and will be responsible for tasks related to patent prosecution and licensing, including compiling patent applications, filing applications, performing due-diligence searches, tracking critical dates, and communicating with various stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

- Utilize legal research tools and databases to research case-specific legal matters
- Prepare and maintain official records, including patent applications, discovery materials, and agreements
- Provide assistance with patenting and technical work, including the form, content, and issues of IP-based legal instruments and documents
- Manage patent case files and organize exhibits for electronic presentation
- Maintain regular contact with key stakeholders to ensure cooperation and provide updates on case status
- Compile and organize evidentiary exhibits for filing
- Produce legal documents and exhibits for patent-related proceedings
- Prepare reports and analyze data using Excel spreadsheets
- Assist with administrative duties, including budget records, procurement activities, and website maintenance

Basic Qualifications:

- Minimum of 2 years of patent paralegal experience
- Bachelor's degree in a biomedical discipline
- Experience with electronic legal research and using public databases to search for patents and trademarks

Minimum Qualifications:

- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Ability to create well-structured technical documents
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat
- Knowledge of common office hardware, such as computers, printers, and scanners
