Sr Claim Counsel, Bond & Specialty Insurance - Remote Hybrid - Full Time - Hartford, CT The Travelers Promise: Taking care of customers, communities, and each other for over 160 years - Annual base salary range of $131, - $216, - Performance-based cash incentive awards - Full benefits package including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off - Opportunities for career growth and development - Inclusive and diverse workplace culture Job Summary: The Sr Claim Counsel will be responsible for handling and resolving complex Bond & Specialty Insurance claims with limited supervision. They will also provide legal advice to underwriting colleagues and non-attorney claim colleagues, and contribute to strategic initiatives within the department. This position will be a remote hybrid role, with the employee working primarily from home and occasionally traveling to the Hartford, CT office. Key Responsibilities: - Analyze, investigate, and resolve Bond & Specialty Insurance claims of varying severity - Prepare and present reports for management on loss development, financial exposure, and claim strategies - Retain and manage outside counsel for litigation cases - Communicate with underwriting on significant claim exposures - Provide legal review and advice to underwriters on bond obligations and contract documents - Engage in account risk mitigation analysis and advise on mitigation strategies - Monitor account bankruptcy proceedings and draft proofs of claim - Negotiate the resolution of bonded obligations on defaulted contracts and other agreements - Review marketplace conditions and draft reference materials to inform colleagues on relevant laws - Support underwriting marketing efforts through participation in events and writing customer-focused materials - Obtain and maintain required adjusters' licenses Qualifications: - Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate Degree - Properly licensed, registered, or authorized to practice law in the jurisdiction of work - 6+ years of relevant legal or claim handling experience - Strong decision-making and negotiation skills - Excellent communication and time management abilities - Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, customers, and business partners Employee Benefits: - Health insurance coverage for employees and their eligible family members from day one - Matching 401(k) contributions and a Pension Plan - Paid time off and company holidays - Wellness programs and access to counseling services - Volunteer opportunities and rewards program At Travelers, we are committed to diversity and inclusion in our workforce.
