Organization: The Legal Aid Society Department: Civil Practice Location: Citywide Job Code: 24-72 Summary: The Legal Aid Society's Civil Practice is seeking a Director of Economic Equities Project to lead a team of attorneys, paralegals, and volunteers in providing legal representation and advocacy for vulnerable New York City residents. The Director will oversee multiple projects, including the Consumer Law Project, Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, Foreclosure Prevention and Home Equity Preservation Project, and Community Development Project, and will be responsible for ensuring high-quality client service, developing legal strategies, and fostering community relationships. The ideal candidate will have at least five years of legal practice experience, with a specialization in consumer law, and a demonstrated commitment to public interest and civil legal services. This is a citywide position with a salary range of $148,960. Key Responsibilities: - Supervise staff attorneys, paralegals, and volunteers in the Consumer Law Project - Supervise managers of the Low-Income Taxpayer Clinic, Foreclosure Prevention and Home Equity Preservation Project, and Community Development Project - Monitor client service and maintain a high standard of representation - Analyze legal issues and develop legal strategies - Assist with the implementation and reporting of programs - Provide oversight of pro bono initiatives - Respond to client, staff, and community concerns - Foster teamwork, communication, and staff accountability - Develop and maintain community relationships - Conduct community education, training, and outreach Requirements: - Minimum of five years of legal practice with a specialization in consumer law preferred - Experience litigating in various forums, including administrative, state, and federal courts - Excellent litigation, oral, and written advocacy skills - Demonstrated commitment to public interest law and civil legal services - Admission to NYS Bar - Supervisory and management experience preferred - Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills - Commitment to exploring alternative approaches to legal practice - Ability to work in a collaborative team model - Proficiency in languages other than English desirable, but not required Salary and Benefits: The salary range for this position is $148,960.
