In this job, the organization, Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc. (SMRLS), is seeking a housing attorney for its Metro Region. The staff attorney will be responsible for providing legal representation for clients in housing cases, including evictions, voucher/subsidy/lease terminations, housing repair, and housing discrimination. The attorney must comply with SMRLS’ policies and practices and may also be involved in community education and outreach efforts. The ideal candidate will have experience working with low-income clients, victims of domestic violence, and diverse backgrounds, as well as courtroom and/or administrative hearing experience. The starting salary for this position is $74,083+ DOE, with great benefits, including medical and dental. Responsibilities:
- Provide legal representation for clients in housing cases, including evictions, voucher/subsidy/lease terminations, housing repair, and housing discrimination.
- Represent clients in negotiations, administrative hearings, court hearings, and appeals.
- Maintain a caseload in compliance with SMRLS’ written practice standards.
- Comply with SMRLS’ policies, practices, and guiding principles in furtherance of its mission.
- Participate in community education efforts and outreach.

- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income clients, victims of domestic violence, and persons of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
- Courtroom and/or administrative hearing experience is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills.

- Good judgment and ability to work hard, independently, efficiently, and under pressure.

Salary:
- Starting salary of $74,083+ DOE, pursuant to salary scale.
