Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is currently seeking a full-time Staff Attorney for our Veterans Advocacy Project. The ideal candidate will have a JD from an accredited university and be licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam. They must also have a dedication to and experience in serving low-income populations, as well as experience working with veterans and community services/partners. Fluency in both English and Spanish, written and spoken, is also required.

The Staff Attorney will provide extended civil services to eligible veterans in a variety of legal matters, including housing, probate, benefits, consumer, employment, homelessness, and family law. They will also work closely with community partners to ensure integrated services and address systemic barriers facing veterans. A successful candidate must be self-directed, empathetic, and motivated.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Evaluate clients' claims and assess civil legal remedies.
Provide direct representation to clients in all stages of litigation and in all forms of advocacy.
Provide counsel to individuals seeking civil legal assistance.
Establish and maintain relationships with community partners to ensure integrated services and address systemic barriers facing veterans.
Support civil legal services for veterans throughout the 68-county TRLA service area.
Participate, organize, and lead education and outreach efforts to community about legal issues confronted by low-income veterans and their families.
