Job Description:

The Legal Aid Society's Criminal Appeals Bureau (CAB) is seeking an Assistant Managing Attorney to help manage the Bureau. The Managing Attorney's Office (MAO) is responsible for handling the procedural aspects of the appellate practice, including case assignments, record acquisition, and distribution of cases to staff attorneys. The Assistant Managing Attorney will supervise MAO staff, liaise with court personnel, and troubleshoot issues to ensure efficient case progress. This position requires strong communication and organizational skills, as well as the ability to balance competing needs to protect clients' rights.

Responsibilities:

- Train and supervise MAO paralegal and support staff
- Oversee case assignments and record acquisition from courts
- Liaise with court personnel and assist with procedural problems

- Engage in strategic planning to ensure efficient case handling
- Other responsibilities as assigned, including overseeing filing and supervising the Notice of Appeal project
