Law Firm Seeks Experienced Legal Assistant for Litigation Practice Group in Nashville, TN

Phelps Dunbar LLP, an AmLaw 200 full-service law firm, is seeking an experienced Legal Assistant to support a group of attorneys in the Litigation and General Business practice groups in Nashville, Tennessee. This non-exempt, full-time position requires a high school diploma and at least 3 years of litigation secretarial experience in a law firm environment. An associate's degree, business school certificate, or related education is desirable, but significant prior experience may be substituted.

Job Description:

As a Legal Assistant, you will provide complex secretarial, administrative, and substantive legal support to the attorneys in your designated practice groups. Your responsibilities will include leveraging technology resources to improve efficiency, preparing documents using office software applications, and maintaining knowledge of legal processes and deadlines. You will also handle e-filings, manage incoming and outgoing mail, and assist with timesheets and billing matters. Other duties may include maintaining calendars, opening and closing files, and communicating with clients in a professional and discreet manner.

Qualifications and Skills:

- High school diploma or equivalency, with additional education preferred
- 3+ years of litigation secretarial experience in a law firm environment
- Strong knowledge of office software applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and PDF
- Familiarity with legal practices, terminology, and court procedures
- Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities
- Excellent typing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills
- Proficiency in coordinating work activities, preparing legal correspondence and documents, and organizing files and records
- Competence in operating standard office equipment, such as computers, copiers, printers, and telephones

Performance Measures:

Your performance as a Legal Assistant will be evaluated by the attorneys in your work group and the Office Manager based on the following criteria:

- Quality and quantity of work performed
- Proficiency with technology tools and understanding of secretarial and office procedures
- Dependability and cooperation with attorneys, clients, and other support staff
- Adherence to office policies and procedures
- Professionalism and effective communication skills
