The Tax Managing Director, International Tax Services - Asset Management Focused, based in Detroit, MI, is responsible for providing practical tax advice to clients in the asset management industry, building relationships with existing clients and prospects, and developing a local team. This role requires excellent communication skills, marketable technical skills, and a track record of maintaining key client relationships. The salary for this position ranges from $150,000 to $400,000, depending on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and location.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement practical international tax consulting ideas for clients, ensuring compliance with firm policies and procedures.
• Act as an industry expert in international tax and serve as a . resource for tax matters with selected foreign jurisdictions.
• Manage international tax services for assigned clients, including pricing structure assessment.
• Collaborate with National Tax Office on drafting tax alerts in areas of specialty.
• Exhibit thought leadership in a specialized area within International Tax.
• Work with Assurance Partners to develop effective go-to-market strategies.
• Identify complex situations when research is necessary and prepare detailed reports of research findings.
• Manage client engagements and conduct detailed reviews of international tax aspects of . tax reporting.
• Identify additional international tax issues and opportunities through the compliance role.
• Represent clients before . tax authorities on international tax aspects of contested issues.
• Apply standards, firm policies, and BDO Tax Quality Manual requirements.
• Review international aspects of tax provisions and coordinate with BDO colleagues in . jurisdictions.
• Supervise and mentor International Tax Managers, Senior Associates, Associates, and Interns.
• Deliver periodic performance feedback and complete performance evaluations for team members.
• Act as a primary contact on assigned engagements.
• Encourage a team environment and contribute to the professional development of assigned personnel.

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting preferred, ., LLM, and/or MST/MBT preferred.
• 10+ years of prior experience in corporate tax, international taxation, legal professional services, or equivalent experience gained through an advanced degree program.
• Experience in International Tax and prior experience supervising tax professionals on a project or engagement basis.
• CPA certification, Attorney, or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent designation required.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and experience utilizing RIA, BNA, Lexis Nexis, and/or Westlaw preferred.
• Self-starter with executive presence and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and legal and tax research skills.
• Ability to meet project deadlines and work independently or within a team.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
• Ability to manage a team and delegate work assignments as needed.
• Capacity to build and maintain strong relationships with internal and client personnel.
• Advanced knowledge of sources of relevant information utilized in tax filings and understanding of general calculations and cause/effect for taxable conditions.
• Advanced understanding of technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding one or more areas of taxation and law.
