Job Overview: A law firm seeks an Employee Benefits/State And Local Tax Attorney to provide expert counsel on a range of legal matters, including employee benefits and state tax issues. The ideal candidate will possess comprehensive knowledge of ERISA compliance, pension and retirement plans, health and welfare plans, fiduciary governance, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, and state and local tax law. This role requires strong analytical skills, effective communication abilities, and the capability to work collaboratively within a team.

Duties:

  • Review and draft plan documents related to employee benefits.
  • Analyze employee benefits issues and provide strategic advice to clients.
  • Advise clients on sales, use, franchise, property, and other state and local tax matters.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws and regulations pertaining to employee benefits and state tax issues.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and clients to develop effective legal strategies.
  • Represent clients in negotiations, hearings, and other legal proceedings as needed.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admitted to practice law in Missouri and Illinois.
  • 5+ years of experience in employee benefits and/or state and local tax law.
  • Strong understanding of ERISA compliance, pension, and retirement plans.
  • Familiarity with health and welfare plans, fiduciary governance, and nonqualified deferred compensation plans.
  • Previous experience with state administrative tax matters is desirable.
  • Excellent academic qualifications with a focus on tax and/or employee benefits law.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills.
  • Proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • State administrative tax experience.
  • Prior experience working with private and government clients.
  • Knowledge of relevant software and legal research tools.

Education and Certifications:

  • Juris Doctor (.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to the Missouri and Illinois State Bar Associations.
