This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a salary range of $40,000 - $50,000 based on experience and qualifications. Job Title: Legal Assistant - Litigation Department: Litigation and General Business Practice Groups Location: Nashville, TN Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 Job Description As a Legal Assistant at Phelps Dunbar LLP, you will play a crucial role in supporting our attorneys in their daily tasks and responsibilities. This includes leveraging technology resources to ensure efficient and effective operations, preparing and formatting legal documents, and maintaining a good working rapport with clients. You will also be responsible for coordinating e-filings, managing calendars, and handling billing matters. Responsibilities - Prepare and format legal documents using office software applications - Coordinate e-filings and filings in state courts - Handle incoming and outgoing mail, faxes, and scan documents - Maintain documents in appropriate workspaces and folders - Manage attorneys' daily calendars and schedule appointments and travel arrangements - Assist with opening and closing files and conducting conflicts checks - Support attorneys with timesheets and billing matters - Request reimbursement for attorneys and client costs - Maintain a good working rapport with clients - Ensure regular and predictable attendance Requirements - High school diploma or equivalent; Associate's Degree or Business School certificate preferred - 3+ years of litigation secretarial experience in a law firm environment - Strong knowledge of office software applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and PDF - Familiarity with legal practices, terminology, and court procedures - Ability to handle multiple priorities and work under pressure - Excellent typing, spelling, grammar, and proofreading skills - Proficiency with standard office equipment - Professionalism and effective communication skills Performance Measures The Legal Assistant's performance will be evaluated by the attorneys and Office Manager based on the following criteria: - Quality and quantity of work - Expertise with software and technology tools - Understanding of secretarial and office procedures, equipment, and legal terminology - Dependability and cooperation with attorneys, clients, and other support staff - Adherence to office policies and procedures - Professionalism and communication skills Additional Information - Degree preferred: 2-year degree - Certificate preferred: Business School certificate - Experience preferred: 3+ years - No travel required Salary Information The salary range for this position is $40,000 - $50,000, based on experience and qualifications.
