# Overview

Canyon County is looking for an Assistant Director of Information Technology (IT) to join their team. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the management of administrative and technical support functions for the IT Department, including the print shop operations, countywide tele,000

**General Statement of Duties:** The Assistant Director of Information Technology is responsible for the management of the administrative and technical support functions for the Information Technologies Department, including the print shop operations, countywide telephone and copier services, IT helpdesk and operations, the purchasing of Canyon County IT's computer and network systems, the County’s mail distribution. In addition, the Assistant Director of Information Technology directs the county’s IT purchasing requirements and procurement processes for all county departments. Performs managerial duties and provides executive assistance to the Director of Information Technology; and performs related work as required.

**Classification Summary:** The primary function of this position has overall responsibly for the IT Department’s Administrative Support, IT Technical Support and Help Desk, IT Project Management, switchboard, purchasing, mail distribution, and printing requirements. This position is under the general supervision of the Director of Information Technology. Duties include employee performance management, and ensure effective and smooth operation within the Information Technologies department. The principal duties of this class are performed in a general office environment.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities:**

- Sets work and project priorities and monitors completion;
- Conducts performance evaluations of all administrative support, purchasing, help desk; technical support, switchboard, and print shop personnel;
- Assists in addressing and resolving problems with support staff performance and work product;
- Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of Information Technologies procedures, policies, and programs and recommends and implements change as needed;
- Interviews, identifies, and qualifies potential vendors or suppliers in order to secure more cost-effective sources of products and services;
- Monitors vendors, service providers, out-sourcing and/or contractor performance to ensure quality of service;
- Supervises the tracking and maintaining of copies of software licenses, warranties, maintenance agreements and vendor contracts;
- Attends meetings as a department Manager, as necessary and/or as requested by The Director of Information Technology;
- Provides metrics concerning the effectiveness of IT systems, help desk and technical support;
- Monitors the storage of all software and hardware serial numbers and/or identification tags and ensures the information is up-to-date and accurate;
- Negotiates pricing, terms and conditions of sale and warranties of goods and/or products with key suppliers and vendors;
- Identifies opportunities for volume purchasing to obtain price breaks;
- Guides the execution of IT projects through the county’s designated project managers;
- Coordinates with other department project managers to ensure proper engagement of IT resources;
- Oversees the IT department’s Petty Cash Fund and various credit card accounts;
- Supervises technical equipment purchasing and inventory duties, including preparation of purchase orders, receiving and inventorying purchased equipment and processing invoices;
