This position requires a Doctoral Degree (JD, PhD) and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction, as well as at least four years of experience in child welfare or other relevant specialized area of law. The successful candidate will be responsible for legal research, writing, speaking, and provision of technical assistance. They will also provide substantive advice, information, and policy recommendations; serve as principal ABA expert on a substantive area of law or public policy; and commit to promoting racial justice, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity in projects, training, writings, and policies. ## Qualifications • Doctoral Degree (JD, PhD) and active bar admission in at least one jurisdiction. • At least four (4) years working in child welfare or other relevant specialized area of law. • Experience in health law, social and racial justice, grant management is a plus. • High level of skills at legal writing and research, oral and written communications, and organizational skill. • Substantial experience in policy analysis. • Ability to travel 20% is required. ## Responsibilities • Conduct research and write speeches, memoranda, articles, frequently for publication. • Provide substantive advice, information and make policy recommendations. Serve as principal ABA expert on a substantive area of law or public policy. Includes contacts with government entities and with the media. • Commit to promoting racial justice, inclusion, and cultural sensitivity in projects, training, writings, and policies. • Facilitate multidisciplinary convenings, build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders including persons with lived experience, medical schools, medical providers, public health, child welfare, legal and judicial, and race equity experts. Coordinate or support member sub-groups and coordinate with external constituencies. • Design and deliver substantive content for presentations and training. • Contribute to writing of proposals for additional grant funding. • Assist with co-managing and updating project website and other communication platforms, including technical aspects and social media. • Give presentations and/or teach on legal and public policy issues. Act as a consultant designing substantive content of events, developing model documents, and conducting training. • Manage substantive/legal project aspects. Oversee research, report-writing, and publication. Coordinate or support member sub-groups and coordinate with external constituencies. Manage consultants, interns/externs. • Analyze laws, regulations, court rules and policies/policy proposals; prepare memoranda of law or on public policy; provide legal counsel. • Research, draft, write, review and critique legislative/rule/policy or regulatory text. Manage policy adoption process. • Secure outside funding; write grants; deal with grant makers. • Performs other related duties as required. ## Salary and Benefits The ABA offers a generous benefits package that protects the health and financial security of its staff. The pay type for this position is salary, with a minimum hiring rate of $89, and a maximum hiring rate of $109,.
