Senior FOIA Paralegal - Washington, DC - Full-Time - $40-$44/Hr Department: Legal Company: C2 Alaska, LLC Job Description: The Senior FOIA Paralegal will provide support to the . Securities and Exchange Commission Office of Support Operations (OSO) in Washington, DC. This position will involve working on various programs related to managing the agency's facilities and assets, including processing requests under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Acts. The Senior FOIA Paralegal will also be responsible for maintaining agency records in accordance with the Federal Records Act and managing the security and safety of SEC facilities. Key Responsibilities: Independently analyze and apply FOIA provisions and make disclosure recommendations, particularly for law enforcement and sensitive information. Redact exempt content and information in accordance with FOIA policies and guidance. Determine which records require referral or consultation with external agencies and internal SEC components. Review and prepare documents for release to the public, including redacting materials and applying appropriate exemptions. Maintain case files and ensure released materials do not contain any exempt information. Input requests and appeals, draft correspondence to requesters, and prepare and maintain case files. Communicate with points of contact to ensure timely delivery of responsive documents. Adhere to all SEC regulations, publications, manuals, and local policies related to the Freedom of Information Act and Privacy Act. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications and Skills: Bachelor's Degree in a related field such as Paralegal Studies, Legal Studies, or Criminal Justice. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Paralegal. Minimum of 2 years of experience processing FOIA/PA requests at a state or federal agency. Ability to pass a credit history check. In-depth knowledge of FOIA/PA exemptions 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7A, 7C, 7D, 7E. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite and FOIAXpress. Experience working remotely and utilizing collaborative platforms such as WebEx or MS Teams. Expert knowledge of FOIA and experience reviewing and redacting records using FOIAXpress. Strong understanding of FOIA case management, including reviewing agency records, making independent determinations on exemptions, and maintaining electronic case files. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. Highly organized with great attention to detail. Physical Demands: This position may require sitting for extended periods of time, as well as occasional walking, standing, climbing, and lifting up to 25 pounds. Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time remote position with a salary range of $40-$44 per hour. Positions covered by the McNamara-O'Hara Service Contract Act, Davis-Bacon Act, or a Collective Bargaining Agreement will comply with statutory or CBA requirements.
