Markel, a Fortune 500 company with over 60 offices in 20+ countries, is seeking a talented Claims Counsel to join our team. In this role, you will manage litigated and pre-litigation claim matters involving allegations of bad faith or seeking extra-contractual damages against Markel-related companies. Responsibilities:
- Manage matters involving bad faith allegations or extra-contractual damages against Markel
- Review proposed declaratory judgment actions and pleadings
- Assist in responding to pre-suit demands, policy limit demands, and other complaints
- Provide technical guidance and training to Markel Claims team members
- Coordinate with Legal and Compliance divisions on claims-related issues
- Complete quarterly surveys and provide data/metrics on claims and lawsuits
- Assist with special projects and presentations as needed
- 25% travel may be required

Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree and JD required
- Active law license in at least 1 state
- 3-7 years experience analyzing coverage under property policies
- 3-7 years experience litigating breach of contract and extra-contractual claims against insurers

- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Desire for continuous improvement
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Comfortable working in a virtual team
- Attention to detail
