Co-Managing Attorney - Lead and Strategize for Justice Posted: December 11, 2023 Location: Buffalo, NY Department: Management, Non-Union Salary Range: $110k+, based on experience Organization: Center for Elder Law & Justice About Us: The Center for Elder Law & Justice (CELJ) is a civil legal services organization dedicated to fighting for justice for low-income older adults in 10 counties in Western New York. Our team of attorneys work tirelessly to protect the rights of our clients and ensure their independence and dignity are preserved. We also advocate for policy changes and work with local leaders to improve the lives of vulnerable older adults in our community. Job Summary: As the Co-Managing Attorney, you will play a crucial role in the Senior Leadership Team and work closely with the CEO to support the overall goals and vision of the agency. You will provide strategic leadership and guidance to a team of Supervising Attorneys and oversee program operations and legal work. We are looking for a candidate with strong legal experience and a commitment to serving the community. Responsibilities: - Provide supervision and support to assigned units, including overseeing all case files and conducting regular case review meetings. - Assign cases and balance caseloads for employees in assigned units. - Collaborate with HR to ensure compliance and quality control for attorney and paralegal training. - Manage performance and provide ongoing support and feedback to Supervising Attorneys through one-on-one meetings and annual reviews. - Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team on cultural leadership and development, new program development, recruiting and relationship building, diversity and inclusion efforts, and policy development and enforcement. - Represent the agency at board meetings, committee meetings, and community outreach events. - Maintain and develop relationships with funders, community leaders, and other organizations to collaborate on efforts to improve the lives of our clients. - Oversee satellite offices and provide back-up as needed for temporary staff shortages. - Travel and work evening/weekend hours as required. Requirements: - JD and admitted to practice in NY. - 10+ years of legal experience preferred. - Background in legal services with a strong commitment to serving the community. - Solution-driven and able to lead and persuade staff. - Credible, discrete, and operates with a high level of integrity. - Able to handle highly confidential and privileged information with honesty and trustworthiness.
