Organization: Maryland Legal Aid (MLA) Position: Staff Attorney - Tenants' Right to Counsel Project (TRCP) Job Type: Full-time Experience: 1-7 years preferred Location: Mid-Western Maryland, Frederick, MD Salary Range: $74, - $115, annually JOB SUMMARY: - Join the dedicated team at MLA's TRCP to provide life-changing civil legal assistance to low-income and marginalized individuals and communities in Maryland. - Represent clients facing eviction or forced displacement, advocate before administrative agencies, and engage in community outreach initiatives. - Gain valuable legal skills and make a meaningful impact in the housing justice movement. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Handle a full caseload of eviction cases, including trial practice, client communication, negotiations, and writing for litigation. - Advocate before administrative agencies and participate in client intake and outreach initiatives. - Maintain case records and continue professional development through trainings. - Assist with broader advocacy efforts, such as policy advocacy and media engagement. - Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position's essential functions. QUALIFICATIONS: - Admitted to practice in the State of Maryland or eligible for admission. - Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school. - Knowledge of civil law, judicial procedures, and evidence rules. - Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Office 365. - Strong research, critical thinking, writing, and communication skills. - Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment. - Commitment to providing quality legal representation for low-income and diverse clients. - Willingness to travel locally and regionally in Maryland. - Spanish language proficiency is a plus. WORK ENVIRONMENT: - Work is primarily performed in a general office setting, with some community work.
