Duties and Responsibilities:

- Provide extended civil services to veterans in a wide range of legal matters
- Evaluate clients' claims and assess civil legal remedies
- Provide direct representation to clients in all stages of litigation and advocacy
- Counsel individuals seeking civil legal assistance
- Establish and maintain relationships with community partners
- Support civil legal services for veterans throughout the 68-county TRLA service area
- Participate, organize, and lead education and outreach efforts to community about legal issues faced by low-income veterans and their families

Qualifications and Preferences:

- JD from accredited university
- Must be licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam
- Dedication to and experience in serving low-income populations
- Experience working with veterans and community services/partners
- Fluent in English and Spanish, written and spoken

Compensation and Benefits:

- Salary commensurate with experience

The Veteran Advocacy Project at Texas RioGrande Legal Aid (TRLA) is seeking a passionate and motivated Staff Attorney to provide extended civil services to veterans in a wide range of legal matters. The ideal candidate will have experience working with low-income populations and a dedication to serving those in need.

As a Staff Attorney for the Veterans Advocacy Project, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of veterans and their families. Your duties will include evaluating clients' claims, providing direct representation in all stages of litigation and advocacy, and counseling individuals seeking civil legal assistance. You will also have the chance to establish and maintain relationships with community partners to ensure integrated services and address systemic barriers facing veterans.

To be considered for this position, you must have a JD from an accredited university and be licensed to practice law in Texas or willing to take the next available Texas bar exam. Fluency in English and Spanish, both written and spoken, is also required. Experience working with veterans and community services/partners is preferred.
